TCP Group Participated the International Trademark Festival, shared Red Bull trademark in global reach

The 12th China International Trademark Festival, co-sponsored by the China Trademark Association and Nanchang Municipal Government of Jiangxi Province, was successfully held in Nanchang from December 5th to 7th. During the festival, Xu Shiqing, the special authorized representative of TCP Group in China, attended the China Trademark Annual Conference and gave a keynote speech titled “Trademark Linking World, Brands Helping Domestic Demand” at the 7th China Brand Economy Summit, sharing his insights into how to strengthen international exchanges of trademarks and brands and how to build internationally renowned brands.

An organizer representative said that TCP’s participation as co-organizer of the festival was an important manifestation of the Chinese government's full support and its strategic work in strengthening intellectual property protection, encouraging innovation and creating a better business environment.

TCP Group is the founder of the Red Bull brand and the Red Bull trademark and the legal holder of the “Red Bull” series of trademarks in China and other countries and regions. The Yoovidhya family and TCP jointly own the Red Bull global trademark. During the exhibition, TCP Group also actively participated in themed forums, corporate exchanges and other forums, showing industry member their new thinking and approaches to deployment in the Chinese market.

Winning the Special Contribution Award for Brand and Trademark Construction

While many people may not be familiar with TCP Group itself, its Red Bull beverage is a well-known brand. TCP Group is a Thai food and beverage company, which includes Red Bull, the world's leading energy drink, which was developed by the Thai-Chinese founder, Mr. Chaleo Yoovidhya, in 1975.

According to Xu Shiqing, TCP Group’s special authorized representative in China, after more than 60 years of development, TCP has become one of the world's leading food and beverage companies, with four product categories, nine brand categories and more than 30 product lines in the fields of energy drinks and electrolyte drinks.

In terms of trademark and brand construction and intellectual property protection, TCP Group cooperates with relevant professional institutions and organizations in the field of intellectual property in China, which not only actively protects the trademark rights and interests of its own Red Bull brand, it also helps promote the intellectual property protection and other related work throughout the food and beverage industry. According to statistics, at present, TCP Group and the Yoovidhya family have carried out trademark and other intellectual property layout in more than 170 countries and regions around the world, owning a total of more than 20,000 trademarks, including “Double Bull Device”, “RedBull”, “红牛” and combination marks.

Red Bull has also been fully protected in China, and has received the support of the national intellectual property authorities and law enforcement agencies at all levels. Red Bull was recognized as a well-known trademark in China in 2006. The plane extension of the Red Bull label was registered as a trademark in 2011, and the Red Bull Golden Can, which has been in use for more than 30 years, was registered as a three-dimensional trademark in 2014. All-round intellectual property registration not only protects the legitimate rights and interests of the Red Bull brand, but also continuously empowers the value of the Red Bull brand.

It is worth mentioning that the legal team of TCP Group has achieved remarkable results in Red Bull’s anti-counterfeiting and rights protection. Since 2019, TCP Group’s legal team and its authorized distributor, Pusheng Food Sale, have carried out more than 200 anti-counterfeiting and rights protection operations nationwide, investigating and dealing with more than 300 infringers and 44 counterfeit companies, with a case value of 500 million yuan. It was rated as one of the “Top Ten Typical Cases” in 2019. This series of actions has strongly protected the legitimate rights and interests of Red Bull and consumers. According to the data released at the International Trademark Festival, from January to October in 2020, there were 7.568 million trademark applications and 4.645 million trademark registrations in China. Until the end of October 2020, the number of valid registered trademarks in China was 29.182 million, ranking it at number one in the world for many years. The State's protection of brand trademarks and intellectual property rights also makes TCP Group more confident and determined in the Chinese market.

On November 16, 2020, the China Trademark Association issued an announcement on its official website to award the Special Contribution Award of Trademark and Brand Construction to TCP, which commends TCP Group’s long-term outstanding contribution to the development of the trademark industry and its diligent efforts in trademark and brand construction.

The “Special Contribution Award for Trademark and Brand Construction” award is just the beginning of the transformation of the TCP Group and the Red Bull brand in the Chinese market. TCP Group will pay more attention to brand trademarks and intellectual property rights in its future development so as to protect and promote the long-term development of the Red Bull brand in China.

Leveraging the Belt and Road Initiative to Seize Greater Opportunities

According to the data released by authoritative market research institutions, the sales volume of China's energy drinks market over the past five years has had a compound annual growth rate of 15.02%, making it one of the fastest growing beverage segments. The per capita consumption of energy drinks in China is only 0.5 kg per year, less than 1/14 of that in developed countries, which also reflects the huge development capacity for energy drinks in China.

The favorable national economic environment and international communication trend undoubtedly provide TCP Group with better development opportunities.

The year 2020 marked the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Thailand. On the day of the anniversary, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha spoke over phone, emphasizing that China and Thailand would take the opportunity to celebrate the 45th anniversary to deepen their friendship and cooperation, strengthen cooperation in their economies, trade, innovation, poverty alleviation and other areas, as well as extend cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Business leaders from Thai companies investing in China expressed their strong agreement with the Chinese government around a series of key measures, such as continuing to expand opening up, optimizing the business environment, promulgating and implementing foreign investment laws and ensuring intellectual property protection at the fair and other important events in 2020.

As a world-famous brand, Red Bull has been thriving in China and in more than 170 countries and regions around the world and has been serving the Chinese market for 27 years since 1993. The continual improvement of both internal skills and the external environment undoubtedly provide a stronger boost to the internationalization process of TCP Group. TCP Group also commented that the development of the Red Bull brand in the Chinese market will usher in a better future in the context of the Chinese government’s emphasis on the good protection of brand trademarks.
