13 December 2022

TCP Group and Crown Holdings, Inc., two leading global companies, have joined forces to set up an aluminum can factory, Crown TCP, with a joint investment of 1,500 million baht, including an expected production capacity of over 820 million cans per year to manufacture packaging of Red Bull for export in the Asia-Pacific region with upgraded production standards through innovations and sustainable development.

The Crown TCP factory, a collaboration involving Crown, the leader in packaging manufacture promoting product brands, and TCP Group, a leader in the food and beverage business and owner of the world-renowned energy drink brand Red Bull, is located on a 26,400 square meter area in Nong Khae Industrial Estate in Saraburi Province. This facility will have a production capacity of 820 million cans per year supporting the demands of the export market for Red Bull while continuously improving trust by delivering packaging, expertise, quality standards and the application of world-class packaging innovations to the manufacturing industry. The Thai workforce will benefit by being part of Thailand Industry 4.0 through the facility’s smart manufacturing system, along with the upgrading of production processes and plant management with integrated intelligent solutions covering production quality, energy and resource management, waste and wastewater circulation management, and safety creating a better quality of life and environment in line with the sustainability development guidelines of both organizations. The Crown TCP plant will produce the lightest aluminum can in the energy drink industry at only 0.245 mm.

Mr. Saravoot Yoovidhya, Chief Executive Officer of TCP Group, said, “Collaboration is the key to success in our business operations today. For our recent joint venture with Crown, we are promoting a sustainable business partnership that goes beyond partners, in line with our goal of ‘Energizing a Better World for All.’ The Crown TCP plant will not only drive business growth, but also promote the economic growth of Thailand as a packaging factory 100% dedicated to exports, generating income for the country. It will also contribute to knowledge transfer of production expertise with world-class quality standards allowing us to define and control the production of packaging from the outset, especially in regard to the environment involving every production process and sustainable packaging development.”

Mr. Goh Hock Huat, President of Crown Asia Pacific,
said, “Crown is a leading global supplier of rigid packaging products with a strong emphasis on quality and sustainability. We are honored to enter into this partnership with TCP Group and believe that this joint venture will contribute to another successful chapter for TCP Group further supporting its legendary and iconic Red Bull brand.”

Crown TCP Factory’s Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability

  • Water: The highest reduction in water consumption among all Crown factories in Asia, saving more than two million liters of water per year from production, with water being reused from the production process after treatment – to water plants, wash pallets, clean roads, and for use in toilets. This will save more than 10,000 cubic meters of water annually and reduce carbon emissions by more than three tonCO2e per year.
  • Waste: The plant is managed to be a Zero Waste to Landfill plant that collect and recycle waste generated from the production process, including wood pallets and various wrapping materials for reuse in accordance with the Circular Economy, and recycle sludge from the wastewater treatment system into a mixture for bricks instead of going to landfill. This will reduce carbon emissions by more than 202 tonCO2e per year.
  • Air: An RTO or odor absorbing air purifier is installed to reduce air pollution. The quality of the air released from the smokestack has a higher standard than the one set by the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand.
  • Energy: The timer system will help control the on-off light switch in the plant saving more than 75,000 kwh of electricity consumption annually and reduce carbon emissions by more than 45 tonCO2e per year.
  • A solar roof installation is scheduled for 2023 which will reduce carbon emissions by approximately 650 tonCO2e per year.
  • Decreasing the use of film when wrapping cans in pallets will reduce waste and carbon emissions by more than 20 tonCO2e per year.
  • By implementing this range of measures, the Crown TCP plant is expected to reduce CO2 emissions in 2023 by almost 1,000 tonCO2e per year.
