What’s the best way to ensure city dwellers live in harmony with big trees? On a humid and cloudy Saturday, 21 July, 2019, the TCP Group, in concert with the Cloud and the BIG Group, led a throng of 160 volunteers to explore how to protect urban trees in ‘the First TCP Spirit: Doctor Tree at the Lumpini Park’.

Participants encompassed 130 volunteers and a total of 30 TCP partners and employees. The 5 engaged tree-promoting activities comprised a medical check-up for trees at the park, an ecosystem training based on the game entitled ‘the natural bonding’, a proper twig trimming class, a huge tree climbing taught by arborists at the lake’s island; and seedling and garden planting demonstration. TCP Spirit Ambassador Alex Rendell joined the session.

In addition, the TCP Spirit’s social and environmental responsibilities included the donation of huge tree equipment for arborists to the Park Bureau, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, to be used at around 20 Bangkok parks. What’s more, tree climbing accessories were passed on to the BIG Tree Group as part of the arborists’ competency promotion and effective urban huge tree protection activity.

The health of massive trees is truly a testimony of quality of life in metropolis. The more a city underlines the importance of huge tree maintenance, the happier its citizen are. A sight of tree-heavy landscape helps reinforce lush, eye-friendly and livable atmosphere. On top of this, a cluster of sizeable trees is an effective water conservation, contributing to higher water level on soil surface, urban flooding control, air purification and urban landscape facelift.
