The vessel docked at Sattahip Port in Chonburi Province, following the completion of its Antarctic expedition. This visit marks the first time Xue Long 2 has docked outside of China, with the aim to promote education in polar science, foster international knowledge exchange, honor Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 70th birthday anniversary, and celebrate the 50^th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China.

Xue Long 2 is China’s most advanced icebreaking research vessel, playing a pivotal role in the study of the Antarctic environments. Since 2014, a total of 17 Thai researchers have had the opportunity to participate in polar expeditions alongside international scientists. The data collected from these missions has contributed to a deeper understanding of polar ecosystems, environmental conditions, and climate change. The National Science Museum (NSM) plans to further disseminate the knowledge and experiences gained from these missions at the NSM Science Square, The Street Ratchada, creating a platform to offer the Thai public an in-depth look into the behind-the-scenes stories of the Antarctic exploration, while also enhancing understanding of global environmental dynamics.

Moreover, the visit of Xue Long 2 serves to honor Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on the auspicious occasion of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 70^th birthday anniversary. It also stands as a testament to the long-standing Sino-Thai relationship, which has flourished for over five decades. This mission marks a significant milestone, reflecting the deepening friendship between the two nations—one that extends beyond diplomacy to encompass collaboration in science and technology. Being chosen as a stopover point for this renowned polar research vessel is a meaningful honor, representing a shared commitment to advancing knowledge and innovation that are essential in addressing the challenges of the future.
